India Vs New-zealand WC Semifinal 2019: What can we learn?

India could have won the match easily with the kind of form they were in. But they failed in this crucial match. I am not here to do a post-match analysis like a pseudo-expert on cricket (Most Indian Spectators are. I was like them too, not long ago.), rather I am here with a different viewpoint on this loss. It is very easy to criticise cricketers but can we learn from this event?

What did India lack ?

1. Luck: Yes, it is true that luck didn't favour. The playing conditions in first 45 minutes of overcast conditions in England is harsh for batsmen. Had Virat Kohli been given not out, New-zealand might have reviewed it and their review could have turned down as it was umpire's call. Who could have imagined a direct hit from Martin Guptill to run out Dhoni. And you can find few more instances like these. Can we blame luck for loss? No. It can never be an excuse as no team has control over it.

2. Preparedness for worst cases:  They were not prepared to face such a situation. It seems like they couldn't have thought even in nightmares that India will lose 4 wickets in first powerplay. Had they been mentally prepared , even after losing 4 wickets , India  with a lot of batting left could have won from there as well. Aren't these unexpected things supposed to happen in such high stake knock-out games? Shouldn't they be prepared?

3. Composure: Keeping your head cool in such high pressure games is known to all but not everyone is mentally strong to maintain such degree of composure. Most  Indian batsmen showed lack of calmness.

4. Overconfidence: One possible reason could be overconfidence as NZ had lost it's last 3 matches and India topped the league table.

If we introspect our failures, the reasons of them will be vary similar to the failure of Indian team - Luck, Preparedness, Composure and Overconfidence. We can criticise them for their failure. Can we do it for ourselves?  We expect cricketers to win every time. Isn't it our responsibility to win in our respective fields? Aren't we representing India? Rather than criticising them, it will be a better to be a self-critique and improve by learning from mistakes of our rolemodels. If we take lessons from this defeat and apply them in our life so that we can taste the success in our personal life which India couldn't do in the semi-final.

P.S. I am also a very big fan of cricket and I am also equally hurt.
